At BlizzCon 2008, it was announced by Blizzard’s VP of Game Design, Rob Pardo, that Starcraft 2 would ship in three stand-alone installments rather than as one distinct game, provisionally entitled Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void respectively for the Terran, Zerg and Protoss factions. Blizzard states that while the concept for the games is similar to that of expansion packs, each game will be distinct. No release dates were announced for the trilogy.

Among these are the inclusion of units that can traverse varying levels of terrain,[16] or have the ability to teleport short distances.[21] Some Protoss units can be deployed nearly instantly into combat areas using a specialized structure, the warp prism.
